Housekeeping Tips Archives
A dusty house not only makes our furniture look bad, but it can cause severe allergies in many people. You can reduce dusting by taking the following steps:
Vacuum frequently. The rule of thumb is one time per week for every pair of feet. That means that a home with two adults, two children and one pet should be vacuumed five times per week.
Maintain your vacuum. Make sure the bag is not too full and that it is working properly.
Use mats outside each door and several throw rugs throughout the house.
Make sure your home is weatherproofed. That means the windows are sealed, the caulking is kept up, etc.
Change your furnace/air conditioner filters regularly. Once a month should be sufficient, but if they are dirty when you change them, switch to every two weeks. They donít cost much and are worth it. I change mine on the first of every month.
Have your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year. Carpets act as filters and they do not show the dirt until they are filthy.
Have your air ducts professionally cleaned every three to five years.
